Activity 2!

The drug I looked up was cocaine and after typing cocaine epidemic in to the search engine, I had received around 667,000 results. After looking over and reading through at least 5 different sources, I noticed that the major theme was addiction. I think addiction is definitely valid to the theme because it is, in fact one of the most addictive drugs. Most articles described how easy it was to make and get and how much money so little of the drug can make. Drug dealers have easy access to cocaine and always have clients who are addicted and are willing to pay large amounts. Especially towards the end of the 20th century was when cocaine grew to form an epidemic, which spread in to several cities within the United States. People started to use cocaine routinely, which formed addiction.  According to class, cocaine if definitely a highly addictive and dangerous drug and it does consist of a huge problem for addicts. The media always presents cocaine as being the worst possible drug to try, especially in movies. They present the drug cocaine with negativity and downfall. Once addicted, it can ruin someone’s life entirely.

Activity 1!

Just to expand on question 6, I think this movie served a very important purpose, which was to encourage young children to stay away from drugs. The video used real life stories of multiple people and showed actual clips of them in their addict state. Hearing such stories is one thing, but seeing it through a movie has a much greater impact on the viewer. After seeing the condition of all those people, I personally understood that I would never try a drug in my life. It’s serves to scare the viewer and put themselves in that position and realize that it’s not something anyone would ever want. The different addicts they used all had stories that varied and it served as emotional appeal that can affect the viewer. The individuals being filmed and the police officers all expressed their emotions and feelings and the unedited footage proved that it was real and not reenacted. It was a very eye-opening movie and I can say that if effectively served its purpose.

Introduction!

As far as a little bit of information about me, I was born and raised in Leicester which a city in England. I lived there for around 11 years until I moved to Bradenton, Florida in 2007. Although I’m from England, I’m Indian by culture because my parents were originally from there. I’m currently a junior at the University of Florida and I’m double majoring in Criminology/Law and Psychology.  When I moved to Florida, I was able to skip a grade because of my previous education in England. Within the University of Florida, I was able to find my place by involvement within student organizations such as the Indian Students Association, the Freshen Leadership Experience, as well as Student Government and Senate. I am taking this course because it going toward my major. My career goals consist of applying to law school later this year and I plan on taking my LSAT in June of this year. I have yet to decide which type of law I want to go in. As far as drugs, I know the differences between legal and illegal drugs and the effects that come along with some of them. I would have to be against the legalization of drugs because of the negative effect it can have on people and how quickly it would spread. However, I’m hoping this class will give me a greater insight so I can be firmer with my opinion. As for experiences with drugs, I have never tried anything illegally and I only take medicine on occasions when I’m very sick.
